It will work on its own ONCE you download the app and do all the settings. I had connected mine via Bluetooth to set up. However after it wouldn’t pair with the newer iPhone update, it still measured steps, stairs, activity and date/time- just no more connection to app on phone even after trouble shooting per instructions on Garmin site!
